Ideas for flourishing in the new Japan

In Japan, we live in a society where almost every person has a cell phone. Anyone can connect to global information networks through the Internet at anytime and anywhere.

In the new Japan, people with conventional knowledge and skills who have been taught by traditional schools will not be sought after, but people who have the ability to think and act independently will flourish because they have the learning capacity to achieve their own goals.

Our children's future society will be totally different from the society of their parents.
In the ever-expanding information network and with the globalization of the world, each person must be able to think and act independently in order to compete on the global stage. "

Learning Ability Education" has been implemented by Alger Independence High School in Washington State in the USA since 1980.
Using this as a school model, Atmark Inter-High School was established in Tokyo, Japan, in 2000.

Atmark encourages students to develop and acquire "the ability to think and act independently, thereby acquiring the ability to flourish in the new Japan."

"Welcome to a world where you can gain the ability to think outside of the box!"

There is one picture storybook.

After students finish reading it, the teacher asks,

"If you were the main character, what would you have done?"

"If you were the author, how would you have made the story different?"

This is just one example of what American first grade students are doing in their English classes.
In US elementary schools, students are trained repeatedly to think about the elements of the story, understand the interplay between characters, and predict what will happen next.
In contrast, Japanese teachers ask only about the book's exact content and test the students' merely on their comprehension of the subject.

These approaches seem profoundly different.
More than one approach should be available for learning a subject.
In fact, the number of ways to learn a subject should equal the number of people studying that subject. Students should not be limited to only one way to get to the answer and/or the solution.

Atmark can provide you with the opportunity to explore all learning possibilities.

You must have the courage to open that door.
