■The school's highest concern is the student's personal goals and lifestyle.
■Students can enroll, transfer, and graduate at anytime from anywhere in the world.
■Students are not obliged to attend classes in person.
■Each student can use the Internet for his/her entire learning journey.
■Each student can choose to enroll in a special college entrance course.
■A private learning coach assists each student with the creation of his/her own plan of study consisting of accredited courses and the completion of this plan of study.
■This private learning coach is a coaching specialist and is certified by the Learning Coach Academy.
■ Each student's grades are determined by his/her progress and accomplishments, not by performance on routine tests.
■Each student can enroll and study in either English or Japanese.
Some examples include the following:
■Translate Hollywood movies into Japanese (English Credit)
■Maintain a business journal while on the job (Practical Training Credit)
■Participate in local volunteer activities (Practical Training Credit)
■Record and research the biological concerns related to your pet (Biology Credit)
■Study for and take the SAT, TOEFL, TOEIC, or other standard tests (Math/English Credit)
■Take the National Japanese Kanji Certification Test (Free Elective Course Credit)
■Study local subjects while traveling in the US (American History Credit)
■1 credit (150 hours of learning and learning contents reports)
Students can do day to day learning from going ot the student`s learning page from the log-in page on the website.
■ Study Records and Final Achievements
The student needs to submit his/her academic achievements (e.g., term papers, research reports, certifications, test scores, artwork, designs) to a private learning coach.
All achievements are evaluated and graded by a number of learning coaches and the principal.
The results are submitted to Alger Independence High School for final approval.
■ If a student who has been studying at another high school, either in Japan or another country,
has sufficient transferable credits, he/she may be able to graduate within six months.
Students from other high schools should contact Atmark officials to have their transcripts evaluated for transferable credits and to receive an estimate on time and credits needed for graduation.
■ The student will receive an official high school diploma from Alger Independence High School, which is a nationally accredited high school and approved by Washington State in the US.

■ A student can earn an optional Japanese high school diploma if he/she enrolls in the Japanese high school equivalent test course program, for which the Japanese language is used, while studying for a U.S. diploma. The Japanese equivalent study courses are also counted toward the credits needed for US graduation. Another alternative plan for earning a Japanese high school diploma is to transfer to our Japanese sister school, Atmark Meihoukan High School, where courses are taught in Japanese, after completing the required courses at Atmark.
